In March 2022 Friends of Cruickshank Park created a new social group called the Yarn Club.

The concept of the Yarn Club is to provide a location and activity for those seeking company, new friendships and to learn a new hobby.

 

Through activities called “yarn bombing” the Yarn Club raises awareness of different causes and events such as the Blue Tree Project for mental health, the pink trees promoting breast cancer awareness and an application to track treatment.

 

The benefits of the Yarn Club are an increase in social interaction for those that feel isolated as well as connect younger and older community members in friendships.

 

Lead by Lola Anderson, the first project for the Yarn Club has already started with the creation of crochet poppy flowers in honour of ANZAC Day on the 25th of April.
